UMSLV attends ICV’s 50th anniversary

What an unforgettable night celebrating the Islamic Council of Victoria’s 50th anniversary on Saturday night.
UMSLV was honoured to attend this milestone event and extends our warmest congratulations to ICV on 50 years of service, leadership, and advocacy for Australian Muslims.
It was inspiring to witness the legacy of ICV’s leadership—from founding president Dr Abdul Khaliq Kazi, to presidents across the decades, through to the current president Mohamed Mohideen. Their collective dedication, along with the tireless work of past and present committee members, has shaped the strong, influential organisation we see today.
The evening was filled with powerful moments:
– The Lifetime Achievement Award presented to pioneer Dr Kazi
– The reflections shared in the President’s Report by Mohamed Mohideen
– The CEO Report by Zakaria Wahid
– The official launch of the ICV Reconciliation Action Plan
– A heartfelt Welcome to Country by Andrew Gardiner
– And a captivating Palestinian Dabke performance that lifted the entire room
We were also proud to see Gippsland representation from BINAI (Br. Zakariyah and Sr Sahrish) , GAMCI (Dr Zafar, Br Tamveer and Br Abdel K Halabi), and UMSLV (Arfa Sarfaraz, Syeda and Khatija) showcasing the strength and unity within our regional Muslim communities. Br Abdel K and Sr Arfa are current ICV committee members.
Congratulations to the organising committee on delivering an exceptional event that highlighted our community’s diversity, resilience, and shared vision. With ministers of multicultural affairs, community leaders, faith leaders, and partners all present, the atmosphere was nothing short of inspiring.
Here’s to the next 50 years of ICV leading with purpose, uplifting communities, and shaping a better future for all Australian Muslims.
